Amy Eriksson Meets with Julia Smith

Starting and Growing a Private Practice in Canada – Insights from Hello Counselling as a Guest on the Fearless Practice Podcast

In late February, I had the absolute pleasure of being a guest on Julia Smith’s podcast, “Fearless Practice”. This podcast focuses on how to start and grow private practices in Canada, making it a valuable resource for anyone in the field. During my interview, I had the opportunity to discuss my journey in starting and growing my practice, which has now expanded to three locations.

We talked about the significant turning point in my career when I left my full-time job, and I shared the challenges and triumphs that came with this scary but risky move. As a single mother working two jobs, this decision was not taken lightly but I spoke to key people about how to run a business and any other planning advice I could learn, which made this transition successful.

Julia and I also discussed the importance of resilience and passion in building a private practice. I shared insights into the strategies I used to ensure I hired the right people to achieve growth. This conversation was more than just a recounting of my professional journey; it was an exploration of the personal values and commitments that have driven me.

We talked about my group therapies helping people going through different journeys in their life and the emotions that come with it.
