Frequently Asked Questions

Whether it’s your first time in therapy and you are looking to how best prepare, or if it’s your first time to our clinic, we hope these frequently asked questions will help guide you. If you have a question that you do not see listed here on our website, please feel free to contact Dawn through the contact form.
How long are the counselling sessions & how long does counselling last?
At Hello Counselling, each session is scheduled for 60 minutes. There is no session limit; it depends mainly on the problems you want to address in therapy. Your time in counselling can continue as long as needed and can conclude at any point you choose.
How can I best prepare for therapy?
Booking and attending your first counselling session is an incredible first step, half of the hard work is complete! Being as open and honest as possible with your therapist throughout your journey will allow them to help you the most. Willing to work inside and outside the sessions is how you will see the greatest change. Booking subsequent appointments at regular intervals will also help to build a routine and relationship with your therapist.
Is therapy covered by insurance?
Most extended benefit plans typically cover social work and psychotherapy services. Please get in touch with your insurance provider to determine your service coverage. Professional services with the designation of Master of Social Work (MSW), Registered Social Worker (RSW), and Registered Psychotherapist (RP) may be claimed as a medical expense on your income taxes. Payment is due upon completion of your session. At this time, you will be provided with a receipt to file your claim with your insurance company (if applicable).
Do you offer crisis or emergency services?
Hello Counselling does not offer crisis or emergency services. If you are in crisis, please dial 988 (National Suicide Crisis Line) or visit your nearest emergency department.
Do you offer therapy to people of all ages?
Yes, we do! We welcome everyone, from children to seniors.
What can I expect in my first counselling session?

For your first session, you can expect rapport building and a discussion of what brought you to see us. We value a holistic approach, as we want to know who you are and feel it is also essential for you to learn about your therapist’s style. Gathering this information during your first session will pave the path to your best treatment.

What is the difference between a Social Worker and a Registered Psychotherapist?

The difference between an MSW/RSW and an RP is the regulatory body that the therapist belongs to. Our staff with an MSW/RSW designation all have a Masters degree in Social Work and are registered with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers. Our staff with the RP designation all have Masters degrees (in counselling, psychology,  sociology) and are registered with the College of Registered Psychotherapists. Having clinicians registered with these regulatory bodies adds another level of protection for our clients to ensure the highest level of care.
